What We Do
Outpost for Hope (www.outpostforhope.org) is an e-philanthropy project that is expanding education and awareness about “missing missing persons” and “kids off the grid,” unreported missing adults and children who are often lost among homeless populations. We are creating a movement for social justice, empowering families searching for lost loved ones, and offering life-saving information to social service and law enforcement agencies via an interactive website, accessible from any location with Internet availability.
The practical, effective, self-help tools provided by Outpost For Hope empower families in crisis to navigate through the often-hidden segments of marginalized existence in our society, where lost loved ones can drop so far out of the main stream that they become hidden among us.
We also support the efforts of families to understand the need for, and to implement, a Recovery Plan prior to a lost loved one being located. Having a loved one just 'come home' who has been lost on the streets and suffering with mental illness and/or other co-occurring issues is often not realistic. We educate law enforcement, social service agencies, and society about the mis-perceptions of mental illness, drug addiction, and homelessness. There are ripple effects that touch each one of us. We hope to reduce the stigma about these conditions which create opportunities for people to be lost and for predators to exploit them without anyone noticing. At Outpost for Hope, we believe that every child matters and that no child or endangered adult should ever be invisible, lost, or harmed in any way.
We envision a society where accounting for all unreported vulnerable children and adults is made a priority, and where information is made available that eliminates the need to try and identify unknown victims of human trafficking and unknown deceased John and Jane Doe persons. Our ultimate hope is for a society where a need for our work does not exist and the exploitation of innocent children and at risk persons no longer occurs.
Outpost for Hope is a web based grassroots nonprofit organization run by a couple of volunteers determined to make a difference, serving the national community and sometimes beyond U.S. borders. Since 1999, Outpost For Hope has helped families, law enforcement, forensic investigators and others to locate hundreds of off the grid unreported 'missing, missing' persons. We are amazed to be marking 11 years of service in 2010! We hope you are inspired to help us continue this work and make a difference.
THANK YOU to all who have given of their time and talent, and to those who have ever prayed for our success and passed our website on to a family in need. We thank anyone who has ever given us a donation of your wisdom and/or of your dollars. All are significant. We appreciate you sharing our work with the public and helping us find creative ways to continue our work for the last 11 years.
About Our Logo
Outpost for Hope was 1 of 10 nonprofits selected out of 80 applicants to win pro bono graphic design services from Barcellona, Inc. through its annual CreateAThon event. Our logo design was derived from a Japanese character representing "truth." The Japanese character was chosen for its attributes: spirituality, strength and beauty. The colors and graphical elements of earth, sun, ocean and land support the spiritual concept of mind, body and soul. Together, these elements create the hope that our lost loved ones are out there waiting to be found. A subtle exclamation mark also reflects the organization's optimism, support and encouragement in its mission. Thank you Barcellona, Inc. for your time, talent and support to create this incredible logo!!
